Application Process and Processing Times

The application process involves several steps:

In total, the process can take approximately 20-25 working days. It is advisable to initiate the application at least 30 days before the intended start date.

Approval for Hiring Foreign Workers :

Employers must obtain approval from the Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs (DOLISA). This step typically takes 15 working days.

Work Permit Application :

Once approval is granted, the employer submits the work permit application to DOLISA. The processing time is approximately 5 working days.

Visa Issuance:

After obtaining the work permit, the employer applies for the LD visa at the Vietnam Immigration Department. The processing time is usually 5 working days.

Visa Stamping:

The applicant can then have the visa stamped at the designated Vietnamese embassy/consulate or upon arrival at a Vietnamese international airport.

Valid Passport:

Must be valid for at least six months from the intended date of entry.

Work Permit or Work Permit Exemption Certificate:

Working visa Validity & Renewal

Typically, the LD Working Visa is valid for up to two years and can be extended once for an additional two years. To continue employment beyond this period, a new application must be submitted.

As of January 1, 2024, according to Decree No. 70/2023/ND-CP, employers are required to assess the need for foreign workers 15 days before the intended employment start date. Additionally, job vacancies must be posted on the Department of Employment’s portal 15 days in advance.
